Engagement Through Books

Much has been written about the effect engagement influences organizational success yet numerous surveys continue to point out that the majority of employees aren’t engaged. This article from The Harvard Business Review highlights a somewhat unique approach that Norvant Health, a North Carolina based network of 15 medical centers, has implemented several years ago: a companywide book club.

Set up as a voluntary program, the company provides copies of the book to everyone and then employees, of all levels, meet to discuss the book. They’ve chosen books that not only reinforce their culture but ones that provide opportunities for personal growth. It’s a wonderful way to engage employees by giving them a common topic and an equal voice.

Well worth the read.
